Greenock Locations

Almost all of Dear Frankie was filmed around various locations in Greenock which lies 25 miles to the west of Glasgow and has fine views over the Clyde estuary to the mountains of Argyll.

Thanks to Melanie Greenberg for identifying many of these locations and for the use of her photographs taken on a tour of Dear Frankie filming locations as part of the Gerard Butler convention held in January 2006 in Glasgow.

These views are seen to their best from location [1], filmed on the slopes of Whin Hill looking across Greenock to the cranes of the Clydeport Container Terminal. The terminal itself [4] was used for the filming location of the scenes showing the SS Accra (Frankie's father's ship).

Views across the Clyde to the Argyll mountains also feature strongly in the Dear Frankie scenes filmed at Battery Park to the north of Greenock [2]. The scene of Frankie's mother Lizzie (Emily Mortimer) on a park bench were filmed here as was the football match where Frankie claims his prize from winning his bet.
