Both a steam train and a more modern Scotrail diesel are seen travelling along a stretch of railway line in two segments of Cloud Atlas set in different times. Filmed west of Glenfinnan on the Fort William to Mallaig line.

The location is around a miles west of Glenfinnan near the A830 to Mallaig. The railway line and road come close together at this point and there is space to park on the right side of the road (if heading for Mallaig) approx 150m past the filming location.
