At the end of Local Hero a helicopter is seen flying over a loch taking Mac back to Houston. This was filmed at Loch Eilt near Lochailort in Morar.

The A830 runs close alongside Loch Eilt for most of the length of the loch. The filming location was at the western end of the loch around a mile before Arieniskill next to a long straight section of the road. At this point the road moves away from the loch side.

Unfortunately there is no car park on this section of the road. However just before the road goes round a sharp 90 degree right bend with a rock cliff on the right of it there is some hard standing beside the road with just enough space to take a car. It's also possible to park around 320m further along the road after the bend.
