Director Bill Forsyth's follow up to "Gregory's Girl", this delightfully observed comedy looks at the conflict between a Texas oil company and the canny residents of a Scottish fishing village, whose land is needed by the Americans for their North Sea oil base.
Peter Riegert's character, 'Mac' is charged with securing the property rights but things don't go exactly as planned. Between, the Northern Lights, mysterious mermaid figures and one eccentric Scottish man (played by Fulton Mackay), Mac would have a hard time getting tiny house plans started let alone a large scale oil refinery. A charming and unexpected movie with an extra impressive soundtrack.
