The public bar of The Ship Inn located on the sea front in Banff was used as the bar of the Macaskill Arms, the hotel in Local Hero. It looks much the same now as it did in the movie, albeit the arches over the rear of the bar are gone, plus during the filming of Local Hero partitions were built to close off part of the room and create a new doorway into the bar. A brief glimpse of the bar was shown on BBC2 on 18th November 2008 in The Culture Show with Mark Kermode interviewing Bill Forsyth in a feature on the 25th anniversary of the film.
